Joanne Conant of Newtown, Connecticut, produces enameled objects, paintings, wire wrapped jewelry and teaches in her home studio and at various Art Centers. She is known for her enameling techniques which include Cloisonné, Plique-a-jour, Champleve, Grisaille, Limoges and Fauré. She fabricates a variety of metal objects such as boxes, pendants, brooches, and plaques.

Joanne has a Commercial Arts Degree from the Minneapolis Technical Institute and an apprenticeship with enamellist Margaret Seeler for twenty-one years, from 1975 until 1996. In 2007, Joanne studied oil painting with master painter Ira Barkoff at the Washington Art Association. Her oil paintings are unique!

Joanne has shared her knowledge with many artists for more than thirty years, teaching classes at the Tucson Museum of Art School, Connecticut State College, and the Brookfield Craft Center, where she was the enameling studio manager for nine years. She also teaches in workshop environments and has provided many private student lessons at her studio in Newtown. I was among the ones to have learned some basic techniques soldering techniques from her. She is well organized and provides clear, concise directions with lots of patient!

I met Joanne at a fundraiser for #Anne’s Place long ago, where she sold her unique works of art. I purchased a 14K gold wire-wrapped necklace with Peridot beads intertwined.

Joanne has received several national and international awards for her enamel work and her oil paintings. The Tucson Museum of Art holds one of Joanne’s enameled boxes in their permanent collection. Learn more at www.joanneconant.com.
