About
I'm Lisa Caron Hickey - an artist, educator, and the founder of Caron Designs.
We all have a “thing.” Some people love to bake, others love to sing—or even build spreadsheets. I always knew mine was to create—and over time, to teach.
I’ve spent many years exploring different mediums—from pottery and fused glass to painting, fiber, and mixed media—but what connects all of my work is a love of creating by hand.
Teaching and sharing that experience with others has become just as meaningful as making the work itself.
Caron Designs grew from my studio practice as a way to make creativity more accessible—through thoughtfully designed kits and welcoming, hands-on workshops. In a world filled with screens and constant noise, I believe creating something by hand brings us back to ourselves and to each other.
Where it began
Long before Caron Designs, I was a little girl crafting with my mother and sisters. I remember turning bottle caps into pendants, designing rooms from Sears catalog cutting out and experimenting with my mom's oil paints...
But like many creatives, I was told it wasn’t a practical path—so I kept it as a part of my life, even when it wasn’t my career.
Caron Designs comes to life
Today, those early explorations have evolved into thoughtfully designed craft kits and hands-on workshops - created to help others experience that same joy.
I first launched Caron Designs in 1989, creating one-of-a-kind jewelry from my Connecticut studio apartment. Over the years, my work has evolved through many mediums—fused glass, hand-painted ceramics, tile installations, pottery, and more.
Eventually, I found myself returning to the joy I felt as a child while creating. That realization led me to develop craft kits designed to spark creativity in others—especially for those looking to unplug, slow down, and make something by hand.
Bringing color and creativity to all
Today, Caron Designs has grown far beyond that small apartment studio. I now work from a 700 sq. ft. studio filled with natural light, wall-to-wall worktables, glass kilns, and a large pottery kiln—a creative space my husband built for me and one I’m deeply grateful for.
When I’m not experimenting with new ideas, I’m teaching workshops, hosting small gatherings, or continuing to learn through my own creative practice.

Giving back
Giving back is just as important to me as creating. Whether it's supporting organizations, making donations to organizations like St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, or sharing creativity through community workshops, I believe art has the power to connect, heal, and inspire.
