Answers to common questions about Caron Designs craft kits, workshops, and the studio in Windham, Vermont.
Who designs the kits?
Every Caron Designs kit is designed by me, Lisa Caron Hickey, an artist and teaching artist. I put each one together by hand in my studio in Windham, Vermont.
What's the difference between needle felting and wet felting?
Needle felting uses a special barbed needle to poke wool fibers until they tangle into a firm shape. It's great for detailed pieces like stars, hearts, and mushrooms. Wet felting uses warm water, soap, and your hands to rub wool fibers together until they bond. It's great for soft, rounded shapes like acorns and felted soap. Some of my kits, like the Snowman kit, use both.
I've never felted before. Are the kits beginner-friendly?
Yes. Every kit includes step-by-step instructions, and most projects are designed for first-timers. Many people finish a kit in an afternoon.
What ages are the kits for?
Most felting kits are recommended for ages 8 and up, with adult help for younger crafters, because felting needles are very sharp. Painting and paper kits, like the Collage Greeting Card Kit, work well for younger children too. Each product page lists its recommended ages.
What comes in a kit?
Each kit includes the materials and instructions for its project. Felting kits usually include wool, felting needles, and a foam pad. Painting kits include paints, brushes, and the pieces to paint. Some wet felting kits ask you to supply warm water. The full list is on each product page.
Do you offer workshops?
Yes. I host small, beginner-friendly workshops at my studio in Windham, Vermont, throughout the year. Past and upcoming classes include needle felting, wreath making, painting, and jewelry. All materials are included, and no experience is needed. See the current schedule on the Workshops page.
Can I take a workshop online?
Some workshops are offered online. The kit is shipped to your door, and you join the class from home. Each workshop listing says whether an online option is available.
Do you offer private or group workshops?
Yes. I offer private workshops at the studio for groups of up to six (with room for up to eight), for birthdays, girls’ nights out, team-building events, family gatherings, and creative retreats. I can also host an online craft activity for friends or family. Private workshops start at $250 for up to six people, plus $35 for each additional person, and include all materials and instruction. Most run 1.5 to 2 hours and can be tailored to your group. Please get in touch through the Contact page to plan yours.
Can I visit the studio?
The studio is in Windham, Vermont, about 30 minutes from Manchester and 35 minutes from Brattleboro. It's open during scheduled workshops and by appointment. Please contact me to arrange a visit.
How long does shipping take?
Orders ship within 1–3 business days by USPS. I currently ship only within the United States.
What is your return policy?
Unopened, unused kits in their original packaging can be returned. Please email lisa@carondesigns.com to start a return. If your order arrives damaged or incorrect, contact me right away and I'll make it right. See the full Refund Policy for details.
